Edenwise

Privacy Policy

Edenwise is a private, invite-only family finance tool. This page explains exactly what it stores, where it is stored, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.

Who is responsible

Nicolaus Mußmächer, [[STREET AND NUMBER]], [[POSTCODE]] [[CITY]], [[COUNTRY]]. For any question about your data, write to n.mussmaecher@icloud.com.

What is stored

Account details: your household name, your e-mail address, and your password stored only as a salted scrypt hash (the password itself is never stored and cannot be recovered).

The financial data you enter yourself: budget rows and amounts, transactions and notes, wealth positions, side budgets, goals, exchange rates and inflation figures.

Preferences: language, light/dark mode and how you arranged the cards on each page.

A simple usage counter: for each day, how many times your household opened the app and how many entries it logged. These are counts only — never amounts, never categories, never the content of anything you typed.

Edenwise has no connection to any bank. It cannot import your account automatically, it never sees your banking credentials, and it processes no card or payment data.

Why, and on what legal basis

Your account and financial data are processed solely to provide the service you asked for — performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The login lockout and the usage counter rest on a legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and knowing whether it is worth running at all (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cookies

Three cookies, all strictly necessary, none used for tracking or advertising: a session cookie that keeps you logged in (expires after 90 days), a cookie storing your chosen language, and one storing light or dark mode. There are no analytics scripts, no advertising scripts, no social media plugins and no third-party fonts or content delivery networks. Because nothing here is optional or tracking-related, there is no consent banner to click away.

Where it is stored, and how it is protected

On a private server operated by Hostinger International Ltd., data centre Frankfurt am Main, Germany (EU). Your data does not leave the European Union, and it is not transferred to any third country.

Everything you send is encrypted in transit with TLS.

The database is encrypted at rest with AES-256 on an encrypted filesystem, and every automatic backup is separately encrypted.

Your financial data is visible to nobody but your own household. The operator's admin area deliberately shows only account names, sign-up dates and last sign-in — never budgets, balances or amounts.

Your data is never sold, never rented, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone — apart from the hosting provider named above, which stores it on our behalf.

How long it is kept

For as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your household and everything in it is erased immediately and irreversibly. Login sessions expire after 90 days. Encrypted backups rotate and fall out of retention within a few weeks, after which the deleted data is gone from those too.

Your rights

Get a copy of everything: Settings → Danger zone → Export, which gives you a complete JSON backup. A full Excel export is available from every page.

Delete everything yourself: Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account. No e-mail, no waiting, no asking permission.

Correct anything: every figure and name in the app is editable at any time.

You also have the right to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children

Edenwise is meant for adults managing a household. It is not directed at children, and accounts are created only by invitation.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the change is announced in the app's "What's new" notice. Last updated: 2026-07-26.
